High Frequency Enhancement
Conventional seismic midpoint stacking is most often thought of as a means to significantly improve signal to noise. This is completely reasonable given our everyday experience. However, it is possible to leverage much more from the stacking process by replacing conventional stack with a higher resolution summation process.
Knowing that each trace in a CDP gather represents the same geology, we recognize there is much finer sampling when the gather is considered as a whole. When we replace the standard stack process with what we call High Resolution Summation, we are able to significantly extend both the resulting bandwidth and seismic resolution. This is done directly; No spike extraction or reflectivity series extraction is done or required.
Leveraging previous work by Norman Neidell and Daniel Wisecup, we utilize a proprietary summation and subsequent migration approach to directly extend usable seismic frequencies. Many times frequencies are extended to very nearly the VibroSeis sweep frequency.
